Life is short

DONNA'S brother passed away. I saw it in the paper this morning, and KYLE emailed me to tell me. He was 33. I had met him at least a couple of times, once when I helped her move into her townhouse. He looked healthy, wasn't like overweight or anything. You know, in this day and age, you don't really think of pneumonia as being fatal, at least in a young person. I don't know. Anyway, my prayers have been and continue to be with the family.

When I asked about him Thursday night, and she was telling me he was going to have to undergo more surgery and stuff, she was trying to be strong and optimistic, but I could just see it in her eyes, that she was really worried and that it was bad. DONNA has been a great friend. My heart goes out to her. The brother/sister relationship is just... well, if you have one, you know how it is. It's special, and standing there Thursday, seeing her eyes start to water, I immediately was looking at it as if it were my sister. I couldn't imagine. It's so unexpected. I guess it makes you stop and take stock of your life, and even though we know life is short, it kind of brings that fact back to the forefront, you know? Be thankful for those around you, those you no doubt often take for granted that they'll just always be there. I am reminded of a passage from James.

"Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away."

Hello faithful readers....

...both of you. lol If someone blogs and no one ever reads it, is it worth blogging? I say no. Just keep a hard journal.

Dinner was good tonight. PAIGE had fixed some sort of chicken parmesan-like stuff. She had also baked a German chocolate cake. We ate, watched football, and chatted. It was a good time. I saw a somewhat disturbing commercial tonight. I'm not sure what it was for, but it had Frank Costanza (Jerry Stiller) and Snoop Dogg. ROFL Does that pairing seem strange to anyone else?

I learned something else very interesting today. An acquaintance of mine (no, it's not who you might think) is dating a 16 year old. lol He's in his mid-30's. Wow! Welcome to the nineties people. Oh wait, it's not the nineties anymore. That is just flat unbelievable. And I felt a little weird last year when I went out with a 20 year old. I mean, maybe if she was 20 and he was in his late thirties. But to still be in high school? That's just wrong.

Also, I bought some new jeans the other night, upon AMBER'S suggestion. lol They are LEVIS (like 569s I believe), and I'm loving them. Looser, more comfortable. It's like going from briefs to boxers, except in jeans. It's great!

And last, and maybe least, I forgot a funny story from last night at the mall. We passed this couple and their little boy (well I assume it was "theirs") and overheard the woman saying, "I think he wants something from in there." (referring to the store they were standing in front of) The man replied in a louder, angrier tone, "Well, he already has half the store!!" ROFL WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Seeing things like that make me thankful to still be single.

In other news, Oklahoma got spanked tonight. Wow! I don't think anyone saw that coming. Now the BCS is a real mess. Three teams with only one loss and only two can play for the title. Get a playoff already. Most teams are already playing 14 games a season. So cut off the regular season at 11 games. Play an 8 team single-elim tournament. That means, at most, a team would play 14 games... maybe 15 if you keep the conference championships. You could rotate the bowls. Pick four for the first round games, and then let the major three bowls rotate the semis and finals. Maybe the Orange, Rose, and Sugar. OK, enough about that for now.

Wow, looks like the east coast got some white stuff. Wish it would snow here.

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night...

"I'm dreaming of a white Christmas, just like the ones I used to know. Where the treetops glisten, and children listen, to hear sleigh bells in the snow..."

When It Gets Outside And You Got Nobody to Love...

Bloggin' away while somebody somewhere is wondering, if everyone you ever hear of tries to get out of jury duty, exactly what kind of people end up serving on these juries?

It's gettin' a tad chilly finally around here. Last night was a fair amount of fun. We shot BILLIARDS for a bit. Every game except for maybe one or two was right down to the wire. We finished up six games in 45 minutes. I can finally see a little consistency beginning to develop. BELLE, WES, TINA, and JANIS were all up there. Wes was saying they had about 350 people in there the Wednesday before Thanksgiving, and the fire chief showed up and they had to get 100 people to leave. Their limit is set at 180 I think. After that, headed to Huntsville. Went to the mall, Barnes & Noble, Old Navy. Didn't find any gifts, although I got a couple of ideas I may go back and get. I hadn't been to that mall in a long while. There was a store which has a lot of retro stuff in there. They had a Dukes of Hazzard t-shirt, some Nintendo and Atari stuff, Batman shirts, as well as some more current stuff, like South Park t-shirts. I wouldn't mind having a retro T for Christmas.

After last night, I am reminded of something Jason Alexander said when he was on Leno or Letterman a few months back. He had taught a class at a local college and he was like, "One thing I wanna know... where were these low-rise jeans when I was in school?" lol Last night saw the invention of a new word which I'll be submitting to the next edition of the Oxford Dictionary of the English Language -- crackage. I used Bunny's system of adding the suffix -age to certain words, to make a different word. You can also try adding -ocity and -poo, but the latter doesn't seem to work as well, and doesn't seem to be attractive to chicks. lol i.e. "Something stinky-poos in here." ROFL WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

Came back by APPLEBEES on our way home. I had some hot chocolate and sat there and chatted with BETH and DAVINA. JESSICA came over right before we left. We talked for a minute. Then, I had a dream about her last night. So that was a little weird. Or maybe not. I dunno.

My sissy-poo cooked lunch today and I went over there and ate. (Wow, I've got to stop talking like that.) ROFL I think the Alabama basketball game comes on here in a minute, so I'm gonna watch some of that, even though they're not very good this year. Then, I'm having dinner at a friend's house tonight. They are having some people over for dinner and to watch football, I guess. Maybe we'll play board games. ROFL That's about it for now.

"City sidewalks, busy sidewalks, dressed in holiday style. In the air there's a feeling of Christmas. Children laughing, people passing, meeting smile after smile. And on every street corner you'll hear, silver bells..."

Are you married yet?

Why is it this is the first question I get when talking to someone I haven't talked to in six months or a year or more? MICHELLE, a girl I used to work with, called today. I haven't talked to her in probably close to a year. The first questions out of her mouth were: "Are you married yet?" "Are you engaged?" Then she commented "Wow, you're gonna have a sad Christmas." lol Gee, thanks. To top it off, she followed up with "Well there aren't too many good girls out there. Good luck." Thank you very much.

A funny thing happened on my way out of Wal-Mart last night. The security alarm sounded as I passed thru and this guy asks for my receipt. He's like "Oh, it's probably this Britney Spears CD" and gives me a look like, yeah, I know why you bought that. lol Actually, I bought it as a gift for someone. (Someone I hope doesn't read my blog.) I wouldn't spend $15 on that for myself.

In other news, I have had success with the tips for not getting shocked when you get out of your car which I posted a couple of days ago. Try 'em. They worketh.

Still no word on Dru :-( They set bail at $5 million for this dude. Good. I can't help but be reminded of that Seinfeld bit when he's talking about the wanted posters. Something like "Why didn't you just hold on to this guy when you were taking his picture?"

"I miss my Smoky Mountain home, and I miss your lovin' too. And it's deep inside of me. And it's always gonna be. Cos this ain't Tennessee...and she ain't you..."

A Good Cause

Click here to go to Campbell's Soup's click-for-cans food drive. All you have to do is vote for your favorite NFL team, and Campbell's will donate a can of soup to a hunger relief charity. Only takes a few seconds.

In other news...

I'm thankful I'm not this guy. OUCH! Man, if some chick tried that with me, I'd be like, "Hey, why you dress me up like a mailman, and make me dance for you, while you smoke crack and have sex on my Dad's bed with some guy I don't even know?"

"When he's loading his sleigh and he's making the rounds, there'll be many a rooftop that won't hear the sound, of the reindeer's hooves stomp and St. Nick touching down. When he wraps up a package of peace for the world, there'll be Christmas for every boy and girl..."

Workin' for the weekend...

Things are mostly excellent around here today. Fridays are usually busy here at work. As I was leaving last night, I got some bad news from DONNA. I walked over to said hi to her, and asked about her brother, who had been sick with double pneumonia before Thanksgiving. I just assumed when I asked that she'd say he was fine by now. But she got a very troubled look on her face. He's still hospitalized, and was supposed to undergo more surgery today. He had a collapsed lung. They reinflated it, and then it had a tear in it. There were other complications, too. Sounds bad. Plus, she's having to drive two hours one way to see him. It's like I try to be comforting and say everything will be OK, but I can see she is worried. Makes you really thankful for the health that you do have.

On a lighter note, as DAVINA picked up KYLE'S cash last night, she was like "I'll be right back with your change" and I was like "Oh, just keep it." So after she was out of earshot, he was like "I think you forget I currently have no source of income." ROFL It was funny. It's good to be able to laugh about our troubles sometimes. Laughter is the best medicine, unless you're Rush. Then, the best medicines are apparently Oxycontin, Lorcet, Xanax, and hydrocodone. The most staggering thing about this story to me was that he has a $24 million oceanfront home. Wow!

Another funny analogy that came out of last night. When you are scared, you can say, "I'm more frightened than a little boy spending his first night at Neverland Ranch." ROFL I don't even know what that really means.

As I said in an earlier post, looks like Nashville is out for today, so I've had to rearrange my schedule a bit. Still planning on doing some shopping either tonight or at some point this weekend. I made a dent in things last night. The problem is, I buy too much for people, at least for family. My family has always sort of gone overboard. But it's all about giving, so I guess it's all good. I bought something for myself last night and felt a little guilty about it. I may return it. But, as DAVINA said last night, since you're not dating anyone this Christmas, you can take the money you'd normally spend on them, and spend on yourself. lol Well, I wouldn't go that far. Anyway, this has gotten long. The end.

"Chestnuts roasting on an open fire. Jack Frost nipping at your nose. Yuletide carols being sung by a choir. And folks, dressed up like Eskimos..."

Seins, Seins, Everywhere's Seins...

There have been some great SEINFELDS on the past couple of nights. The "Serenity Now" just went off. Maybe the best episode of the last season, IMO. Then last night, the one was on where Kramer hires an assistant from NYU, named Darren. ROFL It's also "The Voice," where Jerry, Kramer, and George are saying, "Helloooooo! La la laaaaaaa!" They are pretending to imitate Jerry's girlfriend's bellybutton. lol She gives Jerry an ultimatum to give up the voice or give up her. He keeps the voice. lol

WOOOOOOOO!!! Today was fairly productive. AMBER stopped by to let me see her new hairdo. I went to town and got some Christmas shopping done. One of the stores I went to was Wal-Mart. It was a madhouse, as expected. Afterwards, headed up to APPLEBEES for dinner. Sat with DAVINA. Had the zesty ranch buffalo chicken sandwich, or whatever it's called. DONNA and TRACY were working. JESSICA and BETH were hanging out. JESSICA came over and chatted for quite awhile. I called KYLE to let him know TRACY was working. So he came up there later, although he never talked to her. lol

Looks like the NASHVILLE trip is off for tomorrow, because it might snow in Tennessee. Probably just go to Huntsville instead. I'll recap more tomorrow. It's late and I'm tired. Night.

"There's this girl that's been on my mind, all the time. Su-sussudio, whoa- oh. Now she don't even know my name, but I think she likes me just the same. Su-sussudio. Whoa-oh..."

Seven months tomorrow...

Bloggin' away while somebody somewhere is wondering if we were required by our employers to maintain a blog, would it be anywhere near as fun?

Seven months ago tomorrow (May 5, 2003), I began blogging. Talking about time flying. Wow!!!! It literally seems like maybe two or three months, at most. Now some of you may have been blogging longer. Many of you maybe not as long. And a very isolated few of you may not be blogging at all, and you don't know why. But that's one of the best things about the BlogNation. Everyone is welcome, whether you blog at work, blog at home, blog once a week or ten times a day. It does not matter to other bloggers.

*sigh* I still remember that day back in April when a good friend of mine said to me, "You need to start your own blog." I was like, "What the crap is a blog?" Well, I scoffed at the idea at first, as I do at most of this friend's ideas. lol But after reading a few blogs, I decided to try it. May 5, 2003, was my first blog entry. And there's been no looking back. OK, that's a lie, mostly all I do is look back, but anyhow. What started that day in May as a one paragraph entry has evolved over time into the vast, bandwidth-consuming, bloggerific entity which appears on your monitor today. Many blogs have come and gone in that time. Many others continue to flourish. But here, seven months, two names, and three servers later, my blog still stands. And I'm kind of proud of it. *sniff sniff* And to think, I almost didn't blog. Talk about changing the course of history. lol

Why do I do this on the seven month anniversary? Well, the answer is probably not as complex and deep as you might imagine. I simply missed the six-month anniversary. lol Anyhow, thanks for reading. I look forward to whatever adventures the blog future holds.

"I'm not a kid anymore, but I still believe that those miracles occur, that's not something up his sleeve. And that the reindeer pull the sleigh and the elves still make the toys, Santa gives away to all the girls and boys..."
