3 Word Wednesday LI

Welcome to Three Word Wednesday. Each week, I will post three (or more) words. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to write something using all of those words. It can be a few lines, a story, a poem, anything. I'll also attempt to write something using the same words.

Leave a comment if you participate. Many fun and interesting people might visit your blog.

This week's words are:
Pound
Sunglasses
Wild

Needless to say, I was perplexed when Roger came in lugging a twenty pound potato sack filled with sunglasses. There was no need for me to say anything, the look on my face said it all, and elicited an immediate response.

"No, look! I've got Wayfarers, Ray Bans. I've even got those fold-up Ferraris we used to love."

He spoke as if his words would somehow convince me that this was the plan that was finally going to make money.

Well, what did I care. It was his money. I knew they'd eventually wind up in the storage room alongside his other wild ideas: the ant farm start-up-kits, the boxes of cassettes and cassette singles, and the stockpile of "slightly irregular" Members Only jackets he was so certain were going to make a comeback.

"I'll be right back. I've got two more sacks out in the car."

When he left the room, I picked up one of the fold up Ferrari cases, examined it for a few seconds, then shoved it in my coat pocket.

After all, you never know.

"I can see you, your brown skin shining in the sun. You got that hair slicked back and those Wayfarers on..."

  2. I wrote my post last night and added the words. It's depressing I think--on 9/11, something I can never forget. I live here, but not downtown, so...it's explained in the story

  3. Hi Bone and friends. This is a short, short story; not too happy with it though. It's called "Big Game".

  7. more important than three word wednesday today is:
Getting the proper credit to where credit is due.
    I said Red Skelto.
    WRONG!
It was Groucho Marx in COCONUTS.
Besides liking Tuscaloosa, he also takes women to Florida to Tampa with them.

  12. Each stomp of the wild bull seemed to pound harder than the last as Cowboy Tim clung to the reins. Tim wished he’d opted for the 10 gallon hat instead of sunglasses, though. What was he thinking when he made that decision?

  13. Short and sweet.

  15. I don't know if or when I'll ever find the time (or my sunglasses) to pound out a wild story for this 3 word wednesday again!

    ReplyDelete
  16. So, *pushing her sunglasses up her nose*, did anyone else have a wild time pounding out this stuff? *grin*

I must say, writing this stuff at the end of the day when I should be doing a million other things is sort of exhilarating. lol

Happy hump day, everyone. Or is it hump night now? And did that sound bad? lol

  17. Those wild sunglasses weighed nearly a pound.

  22. I wrote this very quickly...my daughter's school year has started and my computer/poetry time has been greatly depleted. It may take me the rest of the week to get to everyone's posts, but I look forward to reading them! Here's my contribution.

  28. Thank you all for participating. I'll try to be around sometime Friday or Saturday to read everyone's.

  29. I don't know. Something about this story seems very Bone-as-I-know-him.

    Needed the laugh--thanks ;-)
20 pound potato bag filled with sunglasses. Nominate it for the most original use of the word--same with pound

    Wild ideas--irregular Men's Only--just picturing it....

  30. I knew they'd eventually wind up in the storage room alongside his other wild ideas: the ant farm start-up-kits, the boxes of cassettes and cassette singles, and the stockpile of irregular Members Only jackets he was so sure were going to make a comeback.

    LOL

I love people like that. The perpetually positive that this time, their idea was goign to be "the one that took."

The ending though, makes me wonder... just what else has he taken from Roger's crazy schemes over the years... just in case? ;-)

  31. P.S. That may very well be one of the greatest songs ever :)

  32. Wow, I just found your site and plan on taking part by posting at my blog, Aspiring Romance Writer, every Wednesday. ( A different account than this one).

I think this is a wonderful idea.

  33. Bone, your story reminded me of someone who is always losing good money on weird ideas. We end up getting stuff we don't need. I can't even begin to describe those.

What I like about him is his positive attitude.

You story too has those elements.

I like Charlotta-love and sage's very short entries too.

  34. Yours too, nancy j. bond...

  35. I missed last week completely, so I combined last week and this week into one story.

These words were really a challenge for me. Thanks, Bone, for continuing to do this. :)

  36. Bones, the ending or your story made me smile! What a fun take on those three words.

  37. Pia Savage: Thanks. It's harder for me to write humorous fiction. Serious comes easier in fiction to me for some reason.

TC: Well, as anyone who ever owned a Members Only jacket can tell you, we... I mean, they, never throw them away :)

Yeah, I love that song, too.

Romancewriter: Thank you. It's a simple idea, but people seem to like it :) Thanks for participating.

Gautami: Thank you. I often wind up with lots of things I don't really need, though not nearly to the extreme of the guy in the story :)

Manky: Welcome back. I look forward to reading your 6 Word Wednesday.

Mike: Thanks for visiting. I'll check out your site.

  38. Hi Bone,

Get rich quick schemes. Where do I sign up? ;)

Hope you have a great weekend.

  39. What a great idea! Good job Bone.

  40. Short, sweet and hilarious.

What ever happened to those fold-up Ferraris, anyway? Man, I used to love those things . . . not for myself, obviously.

You should try this short, short fiction thing more often. You've got a heck of a knack for fitting large stories in short spaces.

Side note: My father has worn the same pair of Aviator Ray Bans since the 70's, I've never seen him in another pair of sunglasses. They define him in some strange way.

  41. ..."a twenty pound potato sack filled with sunglasses."

Funny! Nice submission this week Bone.

  42. I can picture that you're a kid, in this story... 12-ish... doin' what all kids do when they realize there's money to be made out in the world.

I used to sell rocks. On a TV tray out in front of my house... with signs on the trees around my neighborhood.
    Seriously.
Well, I'd TRY to sell rocks.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Bone - your story reminds me of Kramer from Seinfeld.

    ReplyDelete
  44. nice job bone...loved that a pair got stuck in the pocket...:) sounds like a crazy relationship there...

    ReplyDelete
  45. Rose: The next time I hear of one, I'll send it your way. Or you could just stay up and watch informercials on late night TV.

    Joe: Thanks.

Avery Laine: Thank you. I'm just excited someone knew what I was talking about with the Ferrari's :)

Well that's what we men do. We find a look we like, and we ride it out until the end.

Carlos: Thanks, Carlos. If nothing else, I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who wound up with sunglasses in a potato sack.

Robyn: I used to sell rocks. On a TV tray out in front of my house... with signs on the trees around my neighborhood.

Oh, that is priceless! lol Um, dear, ever hear of lemonade? ;-)

Lissa: Oh most definitely. I wouldn't doubt that some Seinfeld memories seeped into my subconscious while I was writing this :)

Tagster: Thanks. Yeah, I don't think I was ever 100% sure what the characters' relationship was.

  46. Hi everyone, I'm going to be trying something new. I want to do a series of stories completely fictionalised but based on a real-life chance encounter. This week's sets the scene for the rest Hope you enjoy it.
