Funny conversation today:
Me: "Hello."
K :"Hey. What's going on?"
Me: "Not much."
K: "I'm just trying out my new phone."
Me: "You bought a phone?"
K: "Hello? Can you hear me?"
Me: "Hello?"
K: "Hello?"
Me: "Hello?"

New Sanyo VM4500 video phone: $350

Realizing you just shelled out that much money and your reception sucks: Priceless

Washed the truck today. In the process of doing laundry. That's about as fun as watching Keanu Reeves' greatest movie moments. Went for a run this afternoon. I measured out a nice 2.1 mile course. Took about 18 minutes today. I wasn't going for speed, but still, I need to improve on that. Sometimes when I run, I close my eyes and pretend I am running thru Central Park, and there are hotties everywhere. Then people start honking so I have to open my eyes and get back over to the side of the road.
There is a nice little two-lane road I take on my way to and from work, and part of it is almost completely shaded by overhanging trees. I was thinking today it was kinda like driving thru a tropical rain forest... except with a paved road and no pesky tsetse flies. What?
Random TV theme song... "Charles in charge of our days and our nights. Charles in charge of our wrongs and our rights. And I see, I want, I want, Charles in charge of me..."
Got news the other day that I may get a chance to play in a mud volleyball tournament for charity later this year. I played in one of those about ten years ago, it seems. It was maybe the most fun I've ever had, seriouslah. Of course, I'm a different man now... with a different body. But I hope I get to play. It will still be fun, and for a good cause.
Dinner at the steak house tonight. Saw Jack's brother and his wife and kids up there. Ran into one of my sister's friends, as well. That's why I hate eating out in this town. (j/k) The other night at the Mexican place, I saw Kirk and his family, Kim and her boyfriend, Ann, and David Marsh. Wow. K mentioned that LMV is going to be pretty busy over the next 5-6 months and I should get a chance to film quite a bit and make some extra money. That'll be nice.
Tomorrow is my one-year Blogiversary.

Life's Little Moments
When they speak of the exciting, adventurous bachelor life, somehow I don't think this is what they were talking about...
So I stop off on my way home from work today to drop off a CD for Dad. As I go to get in my truck and leave, I experience that dreaded moment where you pull up on the handle and realize the door is locked at just about exactly the same time you look inside the window and see your keys still tightly nestled in the ignition. Nice. My sister happened to be going back to work after her lunch break, and was able to unlock the door to the house and get a clothes hanger. Had she not been there, I would've been locked out of the truck and the house.
I mean, you'd think with this many years of daily driving experience, a person would no longer make these key mistakes. Fortunately, I'd left the window cracked no more than an inch. I first tried to pull the lock up, but it was one of those flimsy painted hangers and just slipped off. So then, I attempted to fish the keys out of the ignition. I was successful with that. Unfortunately, they fell off the hanger into the drink holder in the middle console, even further away from the window. Fortunately, the hanger was just long enough to reach them and I was finally able to hook the key ring and carefully pull them to the door. While all this was going on, I was thinking that it was sorta like a video game. It was all somehow not quite real. Maybe it should be a video game. Real Life 2K4: "Use the clothes hanger to help the moron get his keys."
Well it's little moments like these that make life more exciting... and make me wonder how many more years it'll be before I'm committed. Living alone, I think as long as I don't fall and break any bones or bother my family too much, I'll be safe :-)
"Tell me, did you fall for a shooting star, one without a permanent scar? And did you miss me while you were lookin' for yourself out there?"

The weekend that was...
If you know what it means to 'quone' someone, then this blog is definitely for you...
The Kentucky Derby? I couldn't care less. I'd rather cover my body with a temporary paralysis drug and recreate that scene in the tub from "What Lies Beneath." The TV coverage is like 90 minutes or 2 hours, I forget. You have like an hour pre-race coverage, interviewing the owners, trainers, and jockeys. It's a good thing the horses can't talk. Then the race is like 2 minutes. That's it. And I thought the NASCAR prerace was outrageous. At least the races last a few hours. And if I hear one more person say "mint julep," I'm gonna run thru the streets of town like that little guy in the Nintendo game, Commando. Just kidding, CIA. Geez, you guys are soooo sensitive.
Anytime I think of horses, I can't help but remember Seinfeld's bit on "I'm Telling You For The Last Time." To paraphrase: I don't even think the horses know they're racing. I tell you one thing they don't know. They don't know that should they fall and break their leg, we're gonna blow their brains out. I think they're missing that little nugget of information. If they knew that, you'd see some might careful steppin' out there. "Easy, fellas. You win, I'll place. It's all the same oat bag."
It was a mixed bag for me over the weekend. The Reds have suddenly faded faster than Roseanne Barr's career. Good to see J Gord win the race in California yesterday. And it was definitely nice to see the Spurs beat the Lakers. Don't count out Timmah! and the Duncan-aires.
Oh man, while half-asleep in the wee hours of Sunday morning, there was an SNL rerun on TV. And this skit was on with Tim Meadows as Oprah, and Goat Boy was on there with another Goat Boy. The caption was like, "Goat Boy has just learned that Goat Boy 2 is his brother." ROFL They were hugging and making goat noises. I don't know if it was because it was 3 AM or what, but I was rolling. "Like flaming globes of Sigmund. Like flaming globes!"
Wednesday will be the one-year anniversary of my first blog entry. Should do something special. But what? Maybe just ask for comments or something. Any ideas?
Random funny:
"Two dollars?"
"Yeah, that's like a hundred dollars in Mexico."
"While you were sleepin', I was listening to the radio and wonderin' what you're thinkin' when, it came to mind that I didn't care. And I thought, well if it's over, I had better end it quick before I lose my nerve. Are you listening? Can you hear me?"

There's more to life than making shallow, fairly obvious observations...
Nothing like spending a Saturday night home alone, or even better a whole day with little or no human contact, to make you reevaluate your life.
Sometimes I just feel like I'm ready for the whole thing again. I want it all. I'm talking unexpected pop-ins. Assumed dates every weekend night. Call just to say you miss each other. Wear clothes she buys for you. Spend so much time together you begin to sound alike, and think alike. Ask her permission to go to the game without her. One month anniversaries. Two month anniversaries. Less time with the guys. Six month anniversaries. Kiss her anytime I want. I love you the most. I want her to bug me. I want her to get on my nerves. I want to look into those eyes and know. No doubts. No fears. I want to love all her imperfections and all her quirks. I want to be the one she comes to when she's happy, when she's sad, when she's crying, when she's laughing, when she has good news, or bad news. Dinner with my parents. Vacation with her parents. Picking out sappy birthday cards. Holidays together. I want to roll my eyes when a love song comes on the radio and she turns up the volume, and act like I don't like it. That's what I want. Yeah.
I've been thinking about relationships a lot today. I learned today that one of my female friends was lied to and treated like crap by a guy recently. She is the most wonderful girl you would ever want to meet. She's cute, sweet, honest, fun, caring, kind, and I absolutely think the world of her. I think to myself, I would give anything to find someone like that. And yet, someone who had her heart didn't value it at all. Took it for granted. Did her wrong. Well, I don't know if you're reading this, but if you are, I hope love finds you. You deserve the most wonderful, carefree, loving, passionate relationship the world has ever known ;-)
Why do people who care so much about each other sometimes treat each other as if they don't care? Why do people who have so much to lose act as if they have nothing to lose? I've done it, to some degree. I'm sure most have. Maybe it's pride. Maybe it's simply that we're human. But there should be a higher standard once you're husband and wife, a higher level of maturity and behavior. I'll never understand how you could look into the eyes of someone who has committed her whole life to you and do anything to hurt her. Someone who depends on you for so much. Someone who has supported you, put up with you, and who you depend on for so much as well. Out of 3 billion men in the world, she has chosen to spend her life with you. Think about that for a minute before you ignore her, or yell at her, or argue with her. Love her. Cherish her. Be thankful you have her. I hope that's what I'll do... someday.
Sorry no funny today. That's all I got. All of my darkest fears, and everything I'm capable of. That's me. I know, I know... "Good luck with all that." :-)
"When you get home she'll start to cry. When she says I'm sorry say so am I. And look into those eyes so deep in love, and drink it up. Cos that's the good stuff..."

Out of it
Took a rather lengthy nap this afternoon (4-6:30). When I came to, I was looking at the clock thinking it was 6 AM and that I was late for work. It took me a couple of minutes to deduce that it was Friday evening. Sheesh.
Ran by the grocery store on my way home. I worked with one of the manager's daughters like 10 years ago. So she was scanning my items and was like, "You must not be married." I was like, "I guess you can tell by my groceries." Half-gallon milk, three bananas, powdered donuts, 12 pack of Sun-Drop, frozen pizza. Hmm. Then she was like, "Oh don't worry, you'll find somebody soon. You're a good looking boy."
They say the eyes are the first thing to go :-P
"She said, I bet you don't remember me. I said, only every other memory. I had a barbecue stain on my white t-shirt. You were killin' me in that mini-skirt. Skippin' rocks on the river by the railroad track..."

Interesting flash site
I played v3.764. I think I got to level 10 or 11 before I had to quit for lunch. Level 3 took me awhile. I'm still not sure what I did to get by that one. Could've done without the needless profanity on level 8, but overall it's a neat little site. No instructions. You just kinda have to figure out what to do on your own.
"No matter what your friends try to tell you, we were made to fall in love. We'll always be together, any kind ofweather. It's like that. It's like that. Every little step I take, you will be there..."

Entifadah Qanbar
Blog tip #26: Put "Entifadah Qanbar" in your blog and watch the hits come rolling in.
No two words sum up last evening better than those, however. Or maybe they do, but it's fun to say. He was on TV last night while we were at Logan's. His name kinda sounds like Enchilada Candybar. Anyway, he is the director of the Iraqi National Council or something. I remarked that he is probably just known as The Qandyman over there ;-)
"Hey, look at this, Pinter Ronawat. I wonder if he's related to that guy I dated, Peter Ronawat?"
"Ah, it's probably like Smith over there."
Oh man, some lady just called and left a message on the machine. She said, and I quote, "Hello? (louder) Hello?! Don't be callin' if you ain't gonna say nothing." ROFL WOOOOOOOOO!!! Man, that just made my morning.
Nothing much going on otherwise. Amy invited me down for another card-playing extravaganza Saturday night. People, food, fun... eh, I'm out on that. Jessica stopped by yesterday on her way back from Bham. Billiard Boy returned to action last night for six pretty decent games. Dinner at Logan's. As we were driving there, a commercial came on the radio for some club and they were offering 50 cent Bud this weekend or something. So I remarked, "Did you hear that?! Fifty cent Bud! Oh man, that'll save me.... nothing."
I really need a new computer at home. Anyone have an old one they wanna get rid of? It doesn't have to be nice, or fast. LOL A color monitor would be nice... and would also be an upgrade. If not, I may just slap a new hard drive in there. That would probably solve a lot of the issues. As it is, I've been getting more error messages than (insert creative analogy here). It's very frustrating. Sometimes I just wanna yell, "Entifadah Qanbar!!!!" A new comp doesn't fit the budget right now. Me buying a new computer would be like the US government planning a manned mission to Mars. Oh, wait.
Anywho, hope everyone has a great weekend. Everybody have fun tonight. Everybody wang chung tonight. For now, I guess I'm gonna get back to meet-an-inmate.com. Oh how I wish I was kidding. What?
"Well I guess I've changed, but yeah, couldn't you, given all we've been thru? Heaven knows I've been around and around. And I guess I'll strain well how about that. Here's my life, here's a doorstep..."
