Reconciliation

Dear Blog,

Let us not beat around the bush or tiptoe about the proverbial daisies any longer. Clearly, we have some issues that need to be discussed.

We've drifted apart.

(Blog responds with a series of beeps and electronic noises similar to R2D2, or at least that's what I imagine.)

No, it has nothing to do with Facebook. Why do you always bring her up? She means nothing to me. I only use her for Scrabble.

I'm committed to you. We've been together for over six years. That's the longest relationship I've ever had... with a blog. Or... a girl.

I want this to work, too! But why does everything I write have to be perfect and grandiose?

Well, that's how you make me feel. Like nothing is ever good enough.

Well, I'm not Dooce! I'm me! Nice to meet ya! Maybe if you made as much money as her blog does, I could quit my job and spend all day with you.

I'm sorry. That was uncalled for.

Look, I admit, I have been neglecting you. But I'm here now. Fighting for you. Fighting for us. Doesn't that count for anything?

Where did we go wrong? Remember when we first began, we'd do it like two or three times a day. Then it was once a day. And now we're lucky if we do it once a week. When did it become such a chore? I mean, I still enjoy it when we do get together.

We sure had some good times, didn't we? You stuck with me during my ALL CAPS phase and those early days of zero and one comments, when all we had or needed was each other.

I miss you. I miss us.

Do you remember the first time we went all the way... to 50 comments? That's right, the Nuvaring post. *sniff* You do remember!

Oh blog, come here, I just wanna publish you right here and now.

"Try to see it my way. Only time will tell if I am right or I am wrong. While you see it your way, there's a chance that we might fall apart before too long. We can work it out..."

  1. Maybe you need to spice things up by getting another blog involved so you have a menage a trois.

  2. What a post we can all relate to. Or I can. I've been considering a "Dear Blog" post myself, only I always envision mine starting out, "Dear Blog, It's not you, it's me." and ending with something along the lines of "I'm sorry it didn't work out. I'll always love you. Please remember that."

So I'm glad to see you and your blog reconciled instead of going your separate ways! :)

Love, love, love the Facebook line. That's good quality stuff right there. Hopefully you'll never have to use that line in any other relationship :)

Great post, Bone. It's good to see you back blogging. Even if we only get one a week, we'll take it. But should you ever decide to return to three a day, I'm sure no one would complain.

  3. I've seen so many folks who have been neglecting their blogs...(me included!)

I feel sad about it because I've made a lot of great friendships along the way, but it seems that there just isn't time in my life to spill out my life on the computer anymore.

I don't think your relationship is in too much trouble yet, Bone. At least you're still doing it once a week...when it slips to only once a month and then once every few months then you're in trouble and you will need to look for ways to reconnect or end it all.

    hugs!

  4. I can so relate to this post Bone. I've been there myself a time or two. I've wondered why I do it and then I get a grip and realize it's because I love blogging and meeting people like you. Have a great day.

  5. Wow, I too can totally relate to this post. Especially: "why does everything I write have to be perfect and grandiose?"
Maybe that's why I've been seeing Twitter on the side.

  6. As somebody who writes to her blog at least twice a year I can totally relate.
This is so you and funny

  7. Blog = sit down and think and muse and type and edit and read and edit and type some more and ponder then hit Publish then go back and Edit again.

Facebook = type up snappy comment, hit Share, and done.

FB has probably killed more than its fair share of Blogs.

  8. Ed - Oh, I mentioned that one time. That's a mistake you don't make twice.

TC - Haha. I like the "it's not you, it's me" line.

Thanks. I keep telling myself I need to get back into a 2-3 posts per week pattern. But that hasn't happened yet, obviously. And 2-3 times per day??? At my age?!

Renee - I agree. It seems fewer and fewer people are blogging very often.

So you didn't notice a very slight Seinfeld reference anywhere in my post?

Michelle Johnson - That's a very nice thing to say :) Thanks.

It's always a little sad to me when someone I link to stops blogging.

Susan - Twitter??? *GASP* Well, it's none of my business. That's between you and your blog. I must admit, I've been tempted by the siren song of the tweet a time or two. But so far, I've been strong.

Pia - As somebody who writes to her blog at least twice a year I can totally relate.

LOL At first I thought that said "who writes IN her blog at least twice a year" which was even funnier. But yes, your somewhat regular correspondence with your blog definitely crossed my mind a few times while I was writing this.

Capn John - Yes, I'm afraid you may be right. I actually typed the line "Facebook killed the blog star" somewhere one time.

Oh, that's right, it was on Facebook that I typed that :)

  9. Sounds like there might be a market for "Blog Counseling!" Maybe I should hang a shingle out.

  11. It seems like everyone can relate to this post, myself included. I've not been going as long as you, but I find it runs in phases. Maybe we should all shake up our blogs a bit by swapping with another blogger for a day and posting on someone else's site... do blogs get jealous?

Also, true though it rang, this was a really funny post.

  12. Hey Bone - only posting once a week builds the anticipation - kind of like waiting for someone to accept your FB friend request! :-)

  13. I think blogging come and goes. Some months you have lots to post, and some months you cannot think of anything to post. It's hard to stay interesting and funny all the time.
You'll get your groove back...I just know it!

Maybe you should redesign your blog? It might be motivation?

And 50 comments, I could only dream of that many comments!

  14. Sage - Sage's Blog Counseling & Constellation Information Center? :)

Cami - Aww, I like that story. Short and sweet :)

J Adamthwaite - Thank you. It's nice to know others can relate and understand going through slow periods and dry spells.

Some people used to have guest bloggers occasionally, but I haven't seen anyone do that in a couple of years.

Living and Loving Life - True, but it also builds the pressure :)

If you sent me a friend request, I had no idea it was you.

OKChick - It could be about time for a new look. I might have to work on that at some point.

And if you ever really dreamt of comments, I'd be worried about you :)

  15. I feel the same way with my blog. It's become routine, dull, and the excitement is gone. I think blog and I need to spend more quality time together.

    Wanna double date?

  16. Nothing like giving me a heart attack. I thought you were going to say you were stopping your blog. I was going to cry.

You always bring a smile to my face when I read your newest post no matter how short.

  17. I'm totally copying and pasting this on my blog!!

By the way, I was going to ask if you wanted to be an author on my GH Blog, but I see from your comments to Ed that the last thing you need is another blog to post to. In fact, if you needed a whole other blog, you could just go back to the 3 word wednesday blog.

  18. I could relate to your post, Bone...there's a definite ebb and flow with my blog. But it never talks back and it's always there waiting for me, no questions asked. Hmmm, it's kind of like my dog. lol

I'm glad you're blogging at least once a week, though! It'll be an incredibly sad day if you decide to close up your blog shop...by the way, thank you so much for your very kind words about my 9/11 Tattoo poem. That meant a lot to me.

  19. I hope you don't leave Atlanta while viewing your blog in the ever increasing distance as you head back home. I don't know why it made me think of that entry but..it did.

By the way, from my short stay in Atlanta, I have a great title for a country song: Alabama brings Georgia rain. The Atlanta weathermen drove me nuts. All they did was show what was in Birmingham. I guess us Michiganders are blessed that we receive weather from more directions than just due west. I'll let you know when I have the lyrics done although if you'd like to contribute, feel free.

  20. "Look, I admit, I have been neglecting you. But I'm here now. Fighting for you. Fighting for us. Doesn't that count for anything?"

I hear ya. This has got to be the greatest blogging line ever.
