Momma Bone update

I think it was Lass who coined the above name. Hopefully she doesn't have a copyright on it. Else, I guess I'll be paying each time I use it...

Momma Bone continues to improve a little each day, in my professional son opinion. She went back to work Thursday for half a day. When I went to check on her during my lunch break, she had makeup on and her hair was done. I knew something was up.

Yes, I think it is a bit too soon for her to be going back to work. But at the same time, I'm happy and thankful she was able. And as someone who used five sick hours this year, I guess I don't have a lot of room to talk.

I want to thank all of you for the thoughtful and kind comments, the offers of someone to talk to, the IM's and emails, and especially your thoughts and prayers during this trying time. I read over each one of the comments again this morning. I surely hope I would do the same for each of you.

I also received an email this week from someone I had never emailed nor chatted with. She had written a simply beautiful poem for me. I won't post it without her permission, but thank you Marcia. You truly have a caring soul.

Honestly, I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of care and support. It has reminded me what a wonderful place the blogosphere can be, and how we do get to know each other quite well through these blogs.

I got a lot of shopping done last night and only have a few more gifts to purchase. I apologize for being largely absent the past week or so. I know you understand, but as someone I consider a dear friend likes to say, I think I was born with the guilt gene.

I'm thinking I may finally get around to reading some blogs tonight and this weekend, and hopefully getting back to a regular posting routine. I'm even thinking of live blogging a trip to Wal-Mart :)

This has turned out to be my busiest and most hectic Christmas ever. But if it has brought family closer together, if it has reminded me of what's important in life, if it has helped me to appreciate the warmth and support of friends, and if it has caused Momma Bone to realize she needs to slow down some, then maybe it has also turned out to be one of the best.

Quite simply, I'm amazed it was that many.

So glad to hear your Mom is doing better. In the end, that's the important thing.

  2. P.S. Do me a favor, and give Momma Bone an extra hug for me... even if it doesn't help, she'll always be glad you gave it to her.

  3. TC is brilliant, but don't tell her I said so. Give your mom a hug from all of us...that should keep you out of trouble for a while, and keep your mom from over working...

(Thank you, Bone. You really are a trip, I mean, a nice guy.)

Live from Walmart -- gotta read this one.

  4. I think your mom's desire and willingess to return to work is such a great sign. She's going to be just fine (in my Bone-friend, non-professional opinion.)

Again, don't forget to take care of you!!

  7. I am a professional (really and truly) and I can tell you that it is a GOOD thing if she feels up to going to work for a half day. After what she's been through, if she's not too tired for it, that's a wonderful sign.

There's no risk from going back to work, and returning to normalcy will lift her spirits. Most important for her (and all of you), will be getting to the root of the problem and preventing further strokes. The brain is amazingly plastic. With mild strokes, it will rewire itself and reroute things around the damaged area quite quickly, so that unless she is remarkably fatigued, she won't notice any deficits.

What we typically notice in patients with neurologic problems, however, is that at the end of long days (and sometimes the days following tough days), the symptoms of their injuries may come back because the muscles and neurologic pathways they've recruited to take over for their damaged areas may be fatigued and not operating at 100%. It's not a sign of new injury... And patients learn over time to recognize the signs. It doesn't necessarily mean they have to slow down the first day, just that they have to adjust so that they don't expect too much two days in a row.

Anyway, a blessed holiday season to you and your mum. My prayers and thoughts continue.

  8. So glad to hear that your mom is doing well. and yes, do give her extra hugs from all of us.

I know that you'll still be able to finish your shopping and get everyone on your list a very thoughtful gift.

    Merry Christmas Bone!

  9. TC: Actually, it was five and a half hours. I just went and double-checked after reading your comment :)

    Thanks. I will.

Marcia: Seems like I spend my life simply trying to stay out of trouble :) Thanks again for the poem.

Carnealian: Thanks. And remember Bone-friend is just one letter away from Bone-fiend :)

Paisley: Thank you. I'm looking forward to things easing back towards normal myself.

Sizzle: Happy holidays yourself. And I hope you're doing better, as well.

Gay: Thanks for the info. She'd had a very stressful day Friday, so maybe that caused the symptoms of an earlier stroke to come back.

Being tired seemed to be her major problem the first few days out of the hospital. I guess she finally got a little energy yesterday.

Renee: OK, I'll give her more hugs, but she might start looking at me funny :)

    Merry Christmas.

  10. I am very glad that she is doing well. As you said, it got family closer. Only siblings understand what one undergoes when a parent is ill. No one else can.

I send my hug for you and mamma Bone!

Wishing you laughter, love, joy and much peace for Christmas and coming New Year!

Much power to your pen too!

BTW, URL option is back on blogger!

  11. I hope you know how much the entire Bone family means to me

If there was an out pouring of sympathy and caring, it's because you Bone do care, and yes I know would be there for others in your own Bone-way

It's so good Momma Bone went back to work---it's not slowing down in the traditional sense you have to get her to do--but uh yoga ball, etc

  12. I'm sure lots of people were thinking that Marcia and you were just the only one brave enough to say it ;-)

Regarding your Mom starting to wonder about all the extra hugs, Bone... just tell her a truth: you got a wake-up call from this and wanted her to know just how much she means to you. Maybe it's not the whole truth, but it's certainly not a lie either.

  13. Good to hear your Mom is better and that you've been surrounded by supporting people, even here in the virtual world.

Sometimes it takes a shock to make us realize what is important and just how cared about we are. Glad to read a good report. :)

  15. Kind of want to tell everybody
    Goldfish bowl (wee fish)
    a baby lamb (ewe)
    a girl horse (mare)
    some herons (egrets)
and a moose (not Bullwinkle, even though I'm a big fan.)
So, repeat that two more times and end with an ear hopping along the ground and you have:

Wee Fish Ewe A Mare Egrets Moose
Wee Fish Ewe A Mare Egrets Moose
Wee Fish Ewe A Mare Egrets Moose

    and a hoppy new ear!

  16. Glad to hear Momma Bone is up and doing well. I think working will help keep her mind busy. And, I agree with TC, you can never give to many hugs. So, at that, please give her a hug for me. Have a nice day, Bone. You deserve it.

  17. I'm glad Momma Bone is doing, what sounds to be, so well. Hair and make-up? You can't get me to do that if I'm just a little tired, much less everything she's been thru.

We're having a busy Christmas, too. Phil finally being here. Little baby Olivia finally arriving. And our first Christmas without Grandpa. It's all a little strange... but most of it is pretty enjoyable.

    Chin up, my friend.

  18. Gautami: Thank you. Well said. I hope you have a happy Christmas and wonderful New Year as well. I know you're happy about the URL option. Maybe that's Blogger's Christmas gift to you :)

Pia: Dare I ask, what is my own Bone-way? :) And I have a feeling Santa is bringing Mom a yoga mat and DVD. Just don't tell her.

TC: Sometimes I just pat her on the head. She's like a foot shorter than me. But there's a lot of love in those pats.

    Kerry & Sage: Thank you.

Kontan: Thanks. I wonder why it takes something like that happening to make us realize those things.

Boneman: Well, a Merry Christmas to you, too.

Michelle Johnson: Thanks much. I am having my first relaxing day in quite awhile, actually. Just wrapping presents and watching football, so far :)

Blondie: Sounds like quite the eventful Christmas in Blondie World. The first Christmas without someone is always tough. *hugs*

Bone-way is a patented and trademarked expression

When I write the unofficial not endorsed by Bone bio, you will know

I have a feeling you will edit the unendorsed bio so it can be just right and you can share in the royalties.

I'm glad Momma Bone is getting the yoga tape and mat but you have to include a yoga ball. Trying to remain balanced while doing anything is hysterical and laughter is truly the best medicine

Yes Blogger now lets other url's in. Don't have to give up my 90% Google life.
