Five Guilty Pleasures

Saw this on Veronika's blog. It's the Five Guilty Pleasures Meme. The rules: Simple list or write an entry about five of your guilty pleasures. Then choose five other bloggers to tag.

I thought this sounded like a good idea. I started out thinking about this: What exactly is a guilty pleasure? I looked around on the net, but wasn't really able to find a clear, exact definition. I consider a guilty pleasure to be something you enjoy, but feel like you shouldn't, or are a bit ashamed or embarrassed that you enjoy it. So, based on that from Bonester's Unofficial Unwritten Dictionary, here goes:

1. Cheesy music - No matter if it's "Ice Ice Baby" or "Tubthumpin" or "Bust a Move." If some cheesy, over-played song comes on the radio, I turn it up and (almost) unashamedly sing along. I sing it loud. I sing it proud. And then there are my CD's. Michael Jackson. Beastie Boys. Duran Duran. And then there's my Milli Vanilli cassette. And some days it's all I can do not to reach for this.

2. South Park - I know it's wrong. And I don't watch it as much as I used to. But these little foul-mouthed cartoon kids are frickin' funny. I don't see how they get away with some of the things they do and say on this show. This is one of the two or three shows on TV that will cause me to literally laugh out loud.
<@:-) (clown hat-curly hair-smiley face)

3. Naps - There is almost nothing I like better than being able to come home from work, take off my clothes... where was I going with this? Oh yes! And crawl into bed and sleep for an hour or two. Pure subconscious euphoria.

4. American Idol - This is so embarrassing, as I despise most every reality show. It's crap. I have never watched a single episode of Survivor. I don't even like to watch that much TV, period. But I got hooked on AI last year. The judges really do make this show. I'm hoping I won't get sucked into it this year. But I'm weak. I already watched most of last Tuesdays show.

5. And last, but certainly not least...

Yep, that's your big boy there. Whoppers Malted Milk Balls. Don't give me that little 1.75 oz. baby bag. I want the big milk carton full. Fourteen ounces, babee! Such sweet, chocolatey, mouthwatering goodness. Whew. Suddenly I'm feeling a little flush.

Just missing out on the top five: Romantic comedies, Saved By The Bell reruns, and seeing perennial losers (in sports) continue to lose.

Feel free to do this meme on your blog, or leave your five in the comments. I usually don't tag anyone, but I will this time. I'm tagging:
Carnealian
Lindsy
Uisce
MappyB
And Sherry, since she always tags me ;-)

  1. K,I'm right there with ya on the cheesy music and naps. I am the nap queen, everyone makes fun of me. I even like the first few weeks of AI and South Park is pretty darned funny. I must draw the line at Whoppers. They are just gross! I am appalled that you would even put them in your mouth! Chocolate? What chocolate? EW! Oh and didn't I see your picture on the Whoppers carton recently?

  3. Cheesy music lives! No Southpark. I need a nap. No reality shows. Too many whoppers make me sick.

  4. too many whoppers do make me sick, but damn, they are so good.

so are those naughty little candy hearts.

    my five:
eating a box of fruity pebbles at once

    buying intouch magazine

drinking a bottle of wine while watching a great chick flick or reading a book

watching 7th heaven. why on earth do i like this show? i am a fan of csi, seinfeld, south park too, but 7th heaven doesn't stand for anything i do. it's so inherently good.

taking a long distance road trip, driving straight through by myself. love it.

  6. Carney: "I am appalled that you would even put them in your mouth!"

Sooo many good comebacks for that have I :-)

I was wondering if anyone was going to click on the Whoppers pic.

OC Girl: No, these are all I could think of. Honest O:-) Why, what did you have in mind?

Lass: I guess you can overdo the Whoppers. Although I don't think I ever have. I must have a high malted milk tolerance.

Mappy: Oh man, Fruity Pebbles. Yes, I used to eat like 3 or 4 bowls of those at a time. They are good.

That's a good list. I love road trips, too. And although I've never seen In Touch magazine, I hear Angelina is worried about having a baby.

Lindsy: Wow! That is weird! Did you sing along? I was hoping I could get that song stuck in someone's head today. "Ooooh, Danny Boy..."

  7. Ohhhh, naps. Yes, naps are a big guilty pleasure of mine. There are some days when I take TWO naps. I think that's why my oldest cat and I get along so well. We both love to take naps and we get quite crabby if we don't get our afternoon nap in. My husband just shakes his head when he sees me and my crabby tabby curled up together on the couch.

  9. Again, I'm with you.
    Cheezy music - check.
South Park - when I can catch it, Check.
    Naps - AMEN and check.

    BUT
American damn Idol is pissing my stuff off severely.
NOT because I watch it, because I can't stand it.
And it's fucking with my Tuesday.
I watch ONLY ONE night of TV.
    And that's Tuesday.
NCIS on CBS, followed by HOUSE on FOX, followed by Nip/Tuck on FX. Only there has been NO House for TWO DAMN WEEKS because I have to watch idiots that think they can sing.

Oh and Whoppers - Umm, not really my thing. Milk duds. Milk duds, I would have been with you on.

  10. I accept! Hmm, will I make this my T-13 this week? Tune in and find out if I can think of that many guilty pleasures!

  11. Chickadee: Aw, I should have tagged you! Yes, cats have the life, don't they.

KDubs: Way to train him up right. Poison... Def Leppard... those were the best.

Sherry: I know. Don't tell anyone, but I secretly enjoy being tagged.

Meghan: Yeah, I like House, too. And did you know that Milk Duds were created from Whoppers? Occasionally, you'll get a bad whopper, with no malted milk in it. Just chocolate. A dud. Now I don't care for them, but apparently some people do. So they began selling just the duds, as Milk Duds. They added the caramel later.

(OK, not really, but it sounds good doesn't it.)

Uisce: You could probably do 13. I know I easily came up with more than five.

  12. You totally had me going there on the milk dud thing. I think I'll still spread that around like it's true anyway.

  13. Lizzie: Thanks :-) I thought that was pretty good. I guess it could actually be true. Google: "milk duds", history

  14. O.K guys I'm new at this, so bear with me but my 5 guilty pleasures are: #1 Romance novels, the sappy kind where they fall passionatly in love within a week and have fantastic sex and they all live happily ever after, cheesy I know but after a long day with kids and a husband watching Law and Order it's nice to cuddle up with a good romantic book. #2 Deans Onion dip and a big bag of Ruffles, now that's comfort food. #3 Hagen Daz vanillia swiss almond, I keep it all to myself. #4 Disney channel, I watch it with my kids but the other night my husband caught me watching Hanna Montana by myself, just because I like it.#5 thats a toughie, I'd have to say ABBA the 80's swedish singing group, I still know the words to all their songs. So how did I do?????
